Our Brief History

The Journey to Eternal Life Chapel International
(ELIFE CHURCH)

In a powerful display of unity and divine guidance, Christ Chapel International and Pilgrim Christian Center have come together to form Eternal Life Chapel International (ELIFE CHURCH) — a vibrant, Spirit- filled community built on shared faith, purpose, and mission.

This historic merger emerged after months of prayer, fasting, and dialogue, driven by a shared vision to advance the Kingdom of God and better serve our communities. Both congregations brought rich legacies—strong biblical teaching, passionate worship, and a commitment to outreach and discipleship. However, changing circumstances — including pastoral transitions, membership shifts, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic — created a pressing need to reimagine the future.

In April 2024, while on a mission trip to Liberia, discussions began when Brothers Moses Yoko and King Dickson proposed a merger. Their insight, along with discernment and prayer guided by Proverbs 3:5-6, led us to seek God’s direction through vital questions:

  • Lord, what do You want us to do?
  • What kind of church should we become?
  • How can we serve better together than apart

Recognizing a unique opportunity for renewal, both churches agreed to dissolve their former identities and unite under a fresh, Spirit-led vision. Like a godly marriage, this merger was founded on mutual respect, equality, and a shared desire to grow in Christ.

To ensure a thoughtful transition, an exploratory committee of leaders from both churches was formed. Sister Denise Harper-Johnson, Minister Asa Cummings, Deacon Anthony Tamba, and Deacon Jonathan Harvey represented Pilgrim, whereas Brother King Dickson, Brother Moses Yoko, Sister Matilda Okai- Johnson, Sister Alma Ujay Miller, Sister Gloria Borzie, Sister Sarah Dickson, Sister Marion Cooper and Min. Jackie Yoko represented Christ Chapel. Rev. A. Mathis Cooper, I of Pilgrim and Rev. Kwiah Poker Roberts of CCI were appointed to oversee the process.

After several meetings and careful planning, the committee reached key decisions:

  1. A new name and mission: Eternal Life Chapel International (Nick Name-ELIFE CHURCH)
  2. Appointment of Rev. A. Mathis Cooper, I as lead pastor
  3. A strategic location in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, to serve both congregations and extend our reach into surrounding areas
  4. The establishment of a unified leadership, shared governance, and renewed ministry focus

Let it be known, ELIFE CHURCH is not a continuation of the past two churches but a new beginning — a church built on the foundation of the Cross, unity, love, and a fresh calling from God. Our identity reflects our vision:

  • Eternal Life – Our mission to lead people to God through the cross of Jesus Christ
  • Chapel – A welcoming space for worship, fellowship, and growth
  • International – A diverse, global mindset rooted in the Great Commission

As we move forward, we embrace the words of Psalm 133:1 – “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.” United in Christ, we aim to be a beacon of hope, renewal, and transformation in a world that desperately needs it.

We invite you to join us as we write this new chapter — reviving the church, growing together, serving together, and proclaiming the Gospel with boldness and love.

May God guide and bless ELIFE CHURCH as we shine His light to the nations!
